NEW SUMMER PROGRAMME
We have just put together a new programme for July and August including many new and exciting rides for you...
Friday 15 July and Saturday 13 August see the Full Moon and we are organising a super ride .........so that we can watch the sunset over the sea while enjoying a picnic supper and then riding back to Pinetrees by the Full Moon. On other Friday evenings during July and August we are doing an early evening ride, starting at 17.00hrs, ........ stopping to enjoy a glass of bubbly, or a soft drink, and smoked salmon before the ride home, in time for you still to go out on the town for dinner.
There will also be two hour Hacks on Sunday
and Wednesday mornings, starting at 8.00am before it gets too hot and going through the orange groves of the Ludo Valley.
Pony Clubs are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10.00hrs – 15.00 hrs ... don´t forget to bring your own picnic lunch ... and there will be a Junior Pony Club for under 8´s on Friday afternoons from 14.00hrs – 16.00hrs.
And we have not forgotton our teenage and young adult riders ... as on Monday afternoons we are organising a Jumping Course to put you and your chosen horse through its paces and perhaps competing against your fellow riders at the end of the week. Also, something new ... you can experience riding in the arena by spotlight ... followed by a light supper with your fellow riders on Thursday evenings.
Talking of which .... the PINETREES SUMMER PARTY GYMKHANA is scheduled for Sunday 24 July and Gymkhanas and Clear Round Jumping on 14 and 28 August .... more of these later on our website at
www.pinetreesridingcentre.com
There will, of course, be lessons at all levels on most days as well as Treks out into the pinewoods.
You can find our full Summer Programme on our website. If you would like to book in advance, which is best as in the summer months we tend to get very busy, please do send us an email at pinetrees.riding@world.net.pt
EXCITING DAY FOR DISABLED RIDERS
Some 36 disabled riders were given a really exciting day at Pinetrees Riding Centre with the annual Riding for the Disabled in the Algarve Gymkhana at the end of May. This is the day when these riders, who come weekly to the Centre for lessons with owner, Beverley Gibbons, and President of the Association, Rosemary Owen, show parents and friends what they have been during throughout the rest of the year … a chance for them to show just how much they have learnt and improved.
Every rider won a prize and from the smile of their faces you could see how happy and excited they were to show off in front of their parents.
The volunteers who come every week to lead and help take care of these young riders also had a wonderful day … happy and proud to see how their charges had progressed over the months, and knowing that they have enjoyed their lessons which are balanced with discipline and fun.

The Gymkhana ended with a BBQ for everyone attending, riders and visitors alike with wonderful chickens, donated by Aviludo and cooked by Sr Miguel Estevão at his new restaurant, Martinha's (very near the stables) in Almancil, salads made by the RDA volunteers and ice creams, donated by Sr Silva of Dias & Silva Lda.
A great day was had by all.
RDA would like to thank everyone who helped with this day, including Rotary Almancil, International Rotary Estoi Palace and Dunas Douradas, as well as those who have supported it throughout the year.
RDA continues to look for volunteers to help with riders on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. Sessions are at Pinetrees Riding Centre, Corga da Zorra, Almancil (between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo) between the end of September and the end of May and last for approximately one hour or -once you are really fit! – you could even do two sessions in one morning!
To join the team or for more information, just telephone Rosemary on 964027677 or Sandie on 919060604.

The Giant
Lizard

Sometimes out riding we are lucky enough to see the Giant Lizard, as we call him. Rather like a fishing tale, his size seems to increase with every account of a sighting, however, I would say that to be truthful he is about 12” long and green. Recently Georgina Spillane and I were out riding in the forest when Heidi got the scent of some animal and gave chase. “It” ran up a tree, thus eluding Heidi, and we were able to come to about two metres in front of the lizard who clung on, frozen with fear, as we were able to admire him.

POPPET

Sadly
our
dear
old
Poppet
had to
be put
down
on 15
June.
She
was
very
poorly
but in
the
best
of
hands
with
our
vets
at
Clínica
Animalbu.
Poppet
was
found
as a
young
dog on
a cold
January
day
many
years
ago on
the
road
to
Faro,
having
been
hit by
a car.
Underweight
and
frightened
if you
lifted
your
arm
she
cowered
away
in
fear
of
being
beaten.
But
she
soon
found
comfort
at
Pinetrees
and
grew
into a
great
character.
Being
so
thin I
found
her a
yellow
pullover,
babysize,
to
help
her
stay
warm
at
night.
One
day I
forgot
to
take
it off
in the
morning
and
she
followed
the
pack
as we
went
out
riding
in the
woods.
She
disappeared
and we
spent
a long
time
searching
and
asking
people
on the
building
sites
if
they
had
seen a
little
black
and
tan
dog
“dressed
in a
yellow
pullover”.
You
can
imagine
the
looks
we
got!
Poppet
had
been
booked
in the
following
day
for
her
sterilisation
operation.
She
did
turn
up but
too
late
and
you
could
see
the
look
on her
face
saying
“Oh,
have I
missed
my
appointment?”
!!!!
Poppet
was
not
really
a dog
...
she
would
amaze
the
other
hounds
by
sitting
on my
lap in
the
car
and
driving
down
the
drive
or
sitting
up on
the
front
of the
saddle
with
me,
with
one
paw
over
the
reins.
With
the
fantastic
ability
to
stand
on her
hind
legs,
dancing
was a
favourite
pastime
... as
was
flirting
with
all
the
men
who
came
to the
yard.

this
humungous
23%

have
raised
the

the
