“HANDY HORSE” – OR “WORKING EQUITATION”
A testing and amusing course of visual obstacles to be completed while the clock ticks. Time Penalties given for misdemeaners: For every error, as below, a second will be added to the score.
Riders (may be on the lead rein if necessary) enter the main arena one at a time and complete the course, while other riders wait in the small arena. Horses may therefore be shared.
The Lane (O Caminho) Horse walk, trot or canter through the row of parallel poles. Errors: stepping outside the poles, knocking down a pole, stepping backwards
Bean Bag in the Bucket Rider picks up a bean bag, rides to the bucket, halts andputs it in the bucket. Errors: horse not establishing a halt, rider bean bag.
The Clover Leaf (O Trevo) Begin and finish going through the cones and negotiate the barrels in the correct pattern as per the diagram. Errors: not completing the route prescribed in the diagram, not starting between the cones, not finishing between the cones.
The Water Cup (O Copo de Água) Rider halts at the post, and with reins in one hand, takes the cup full of water. Riding with reins in one hand, go to the bucket and tips the water in. Return the cup. Errors: Dropping the cup, spilling the water, horse not establishing the halt
The Slalom (A Serpentina) Bending through the row of vertical poles at walk, trotor canter. Errors: missing a pole
Jump Cross bars or Straw Bales Choose between going over the cross bars or jumping the straw bales. Errors: refusing, or running out.
All Horses and Riders must wait in the collecting ring until it is their turn to enter.
Important Information
The cost of participating is €10 to take part in as many games as you like. If you wish to go a second time in the jumping, it is another €5. This money will go to the charity.
If you do not have your own horse you can hire a horse from Pinetrees for €35 for the day or 1 Unit off your Pinetrees Card.
Bring a few extra euros as RDA Algarve will be having a raffle and selling some nice things to eat.
Please pay for your games on arrival. You will then receive a ticket that will allow you into the arena for the games.For more information call 919 363 190 and speak to Bev. Riders should wear their riding hats, riding boots and jods. In the fancy dress a riding hat, with chin strap correctly fastened must be worn. In the interests of
safety a suitable assistant may accompany the horse, using a lead rein, in case of a horse spooking.
